question 2

Question 2 : Comparison
Q. Select another group for comparing your hardware
specification with and justify why your specification is better
than the selected group.

We had selected Group 3 from Fizikal 1 to compare our hardware specification.

Below is the reason why our hardware is better than theirs :)

Specification
Macbook Air
Asus A45V0
Operating System
Windows 7 & Apple OS
Windows 8

Explanation:

v  Since Macbook is an Apple product , it is able to operate with Apple OS. However, it could also operate Windows 8 at the same time.

Microprocessor
Intel Core i5
3rd Generation Intel Core i5-3230

Explanation:
v  It provides a moderate performances, which enable multitasking and better for media creation. This comes really handy  for business and activities alike.

v  Though it microprocessor is similar, it has a slightly faster performances.
RAM
4GB
2GB

Explanation:
v  Macbook Air has a larger RAM comparable to Asus A45V0, this make it easier to open large numbers of tab and ease multitasking

v  It has a lower amount of RAM, thus, making it slower when accessing information.

Battery
Lithium Battery
6 cells battery

Explanation:
v  Longer-lasting , which last up to 9 hours on wireless web, 8 hours on iTunes and movie playback or 30 days on stand-by

v  1-3 hours
Weight
1.08 kg
2.4kg

Explanation:
v  Lightweight and Thin

v  Slightly Heavier

Conclusion
Macbook Air is better than Asus A45V0. J

Final Answer Question 1 (SCL 1)

Question 1
List your ideal desktop or laptop hardware specification as in slide 21-Figure 2.17 and explain why.

Hardware Specifications
Chosen
Reasons
Microprocessors
Intel Core i5
It provides moderate performance. Can do multitasking and better for media creation.
RAM
4GB
Better to use 4GB RAM when using windows 7 for multitasking (10 tabs running and other windows applications) and better performance.
Operating Systems
Windows 7
Easier to use and the closest to normal operating system for a computer.
Size
Light & Portable
Easy to carry.
Battery
Long-lasting
Can be used longer without worrying about the battery.

We choose Macbook Air as our ideal laptop/desktop.

This is because Macbook Air is stylish despite having the above specifications.
  • Intel Core i5 as its microprocessors.
  • 4GB RAM minimum
  • Can uses both Apple OS X and Windows 7 as their operating system. Can used both of them at the same time.
  • Lithium Battery ( Up to 9 hours wireless web, 8 hour iTunes movie playback, 30 days standby time)
  • Size ( it is light and thin)
Height0.11-0.68 in (0.3-1.7 cm)
Width 11.8 in (30 cm)
Depth : 7.56 in (19.2 cm)
Weight : 2.38 pounds ( 1.08 kg)

Answer for question 1 (roughly)

well, this is our group answer for question 1 which is regarding our ideal laptop/desktop. since all of us are not a gamer, we choose a moderate performance of a laptop.

for microprocessors, we choose intel core i5 because it provide higher performance compare to other intel microprocessors except intel core i7. this microprocessors give us a better performance compared intel i3. in terms of prices, intel core i5 might be a bit expensive, we don't really care as long as it provide what we needed. Essentially, the Core i5 processors have more capabilities than Core i3 processors. Core i5 will be better for media creation, multi-tasking, and if we used to regularly complain about our PC being slow. Core i3 will be sufficient for people who want a PC that's faster than an Atom-powered tablet or netbook, but don't want to spend any more than they have to.

In addition to generally faster base clock speeds, Core i5 processors have larger cache (on-board memory) to help the processor deal with repetitive tasks faster. Larger cache sizes help multi-tasking as well, since background tasks will be ready for when we switch focus to another window. On currently available desktop processors, i5 CPUs have up to 6MB of L3 cache, while i3 processors have 3MB.

Turbo Boost refers to Intel's "overclocking" feature built into its processors. Essentially, it allows the processor to run faster than its base clock speed when only one or two processor cores are needed (like when we're running a single-threaded task that we want to be done by now). Most Core i5 processors use Turbo Boost but Core i3 processors don't feature Turbo Boost.

for RAM, we choose 4GB. This is because although 2 GB is enough for a home user, there will be when we want to upgrade it. by using 4 GB straight away, we don't have to upgrade quite instantly. what we are trying to say here is we need to think further ahead. From what we found out in the internet, it says that if we are using windows XP than 2GB is enough if we open a browser with 10 tabs running, music player, and other windows programme. but if we are windows vista or windows 7 than 2 GB is not enough compared to 4 GB. Since we are the type to open a lot of programmes than we should choose 4 GB of RAM.

For operating system, we personally choose windows 7. It is easier to use compare to windows 8. Although there are a lot of operating system now, we decided to compare windows 7 and windows 8 because those 2 are the main operating system nowadays other than apple. We decided to leave out apple os because it is harder to find all softwares and hardwares for apple in Malaysia. for those who are not used to apple software might find it hard. back to our main purpose, windows 8 are designed mainly for tablets and touchscreen computers. To us, for a non-touchscreen laptops it is quite useless to use windows 8. But if we think further ahead a lot of computers will be broken down then we have no choice but to use windows 8 since all the computers and laptops are using windows 8 nowadays. Still to us windows 7 is the best when it comes to normal operating system.

SCL Question 1 (Jawapan) (Personal opinion)

Since I am not really a gamer, therefore i prefer to use the following specification.
Currently,
For microprocessors, I am using Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU  M380 @ 2.53 GHz 2.53 GHz. Intel Core i3 is suitable for a home user like me. I am satisfied with what I am using right now. I am not a gamer or graphic designer. Therefore, there is no need for me to use a higher level of microprocessors like Intel Core i7 or apple os.
For RAM, I am using 4.00 GB. I think 4 GB is enough for me right now. Even if I want to upgrade it, i will do so in 2 years time perhaps.
For operating system, I am using windows 7. I am planning to upgrade it to windows 8 because i find that windows 8 is cool and it is simply an upgrade in a computer operating system. Not only that, since I have tried using windows 8, I find that it is easier to use because I like to explore new things especially when it is regarding computers. I find that using Windows 8 is fun and simply amazing.

But since we are asasi sains fizikal students, there is a need for an upgrade to my current laptop. I have been researching for the ideal laptop for engineering students these few days. It is said that a computer operating system preferred for us are Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7. Thus, there might be an upgrade to my current laptop next year if it is really needed or we really need to upgrade it for a high performance.

Personally, I think it is based on one's preferences on their ideal laptop. Not only that they are thinking for their own satisfaction, there are a lot of things that needed to be taken into account. In conclusion, there are a lot of laptop hardware that can be used but it is still based on our own purpose and budget.

What about you guys???
